Of all the Vung Tau neighborhoods, I chose to stay in Back Beach for its more tranquil nature while maintaining easy access to some of the best local attractions. Here are a few things I got up to during my stay:

There are plenty of great food and drink options around Back Beach. Traditional street food can be found everywhere, but consider visiting these 3 options during your stay. I certainly enjoyed them.

Thuy Van is the best place to stay in Vung Tau for nightlife. It’s a popular street with a lively atmosphere and the city’s biggest nightclubs and entertainment venues.
This is a late-night spot that comes alive after dark, with music, dancing, and good times filling the air. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a cocktail by the sea or party into the early hours, Thuy Van is the place for night owls.

The area known as Front Beach is one of the best places to stay in Vung Tau. It’s the main hub of the city and everything you need is within walking distance. There are cool bars and restaurants but still plenty of local charm.
The small beach gets busy here but is just as lovely as Back Beach further along the coast. For access to the Ho Chi Minh ferry and all the main amenities of the city, you’ll be perfectly situated by basing yourself here.

- Lively Scene: Being the main hub of Vung Tau means there are plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants to enjoy.
- Beautiful Scenery: Despite the central location the sea and mountains are spectacular.

- Busy Location: Although I’ve listed this as a pro, it may also be a negative for some visitors.
- Limited Beach: Back Beach is far more expansive than Front Beach.
- Traffic and Parking: Although quiet by Vietnam standards, parking, and subsequently traffic, is busiest around Front Beach.

I was technically on vacation during my stay in Vung Tau, but as all freelancers know, a clean break rarely ever happens! So, while exploring further afield from the coastline I stumbled across Nguyen An Ninh, an area lined with great spots to work.
The number of cool cafes makes this spot the best area for digital nomads to stay in Vung Tau, where you’ll still have easy access to Vung Tau’s beaches and fun attractions while being far enough away to focus on projects and deadlines.

- Workspace Options: With so many laptop-friendly cafes, you could try a new one every day.
- Less Touristy: Away from the main beaches, this place is less touristy and quieter.
- More Affordable: Prices are generally lower when staying in Nguyen An Ninh.
Cons of Staying in Nguyen An Ninh
- Taxis Required: It’s a significant walk to Vung Tau’s main attractions so taxis will be necessary for getting around town.
- Less Buzz: This area is designed more for locals and doesn’t have much of a nightlife or social scene.
- Fewer Western Amenities: Being predominantly set up for locals, there are little to no Westernized home comforts.

Despite being away from Vung Tau’s main drag and popular beaches there are still plenty of accommodation options. Here are three options that will suit digital nomads during a stay in Vung Tau:

There are many cheap places to stay in Vung Tau but if you are on a tight budget, you may consider turning left off of the ferry as opposed to right. This is where you will find Ward 5, an often overlooked part of Vung Tau that has lots of charm.
Visitors from places such as the USA and the UK will find prices across Vietnam startlingly cheap. Ward 5 is a great example of this thrifty living and proof that living on a budget in Vung Tau is easy to do.
Pros of Staying in Ward 5
- Cheaper Prices: Many tourists head to the main beaches meaning prices in Ward 5 are generally cheaper.
- Quieter: Furthermore, this lack of tourist action means quieter streets, less traffic, and fewer noisy distractions.
- Stunning Scenery: Much of Ward 5 is a lush green mountain, with the ocean wrapped around it. The views are truly stunning.
Cons of Staying in Ward 5
- Fewer Amenities: There are far fewer amenities such as shops and restaurants in Ward 5 compared to other districts.
- Away From the Main Attractions: Although not far, staying in Ward 5 means being situated outside of Vung Tau’s main hub.
- No Nightlife: There is no real nightlife scene in Ward 5, you will need to venture into town for this.
Best Places to Stay in Ward 5
I enjoyed visiting Ward 5, its more tranquil nature and remoteness made it feel secluded and like one of the posher areas of Vung Tau. There are some excellent accommodation options, have a look at these great places to stay.
